Midland 75-822 40 Channel CB-Way Radio Review

Hi, to all truckers and people thinking of going out in this crazy weather to visit cabins and travelling the long road in this time of need you require a CB radio in your car. I have been a trucker for many years and with the new technology these days that range from Smartphone’s and tablets the CB radio may seem as outdated as old 50’s and 60’s fashion, but still remain the most useful accessory in any vehicle when on the road.

I had recently replaced my old CB with the Midland 75-822 40 Channel CB-way Radio, and thought why not share my review with you for next time when you are in need of buying yourself one.

Having the Midland 75-822 40 Channel CB-way radio

Being a trucker for more than five years now the mobile phone may be the new in thing while traveling but not as reliable when it comes to certain parts of the country while travelling through mountains where coverage always seems to be a problem. After replacing my old CB with the new Midland 75-822 40 Channel CB-way radio, I received firsthand experience of what a great tool this is when in trouble as my truck was stuck on the mountain roads and without my radio would not have been able to get help from others to assist me.

When I received the CB radio ordered online it came with everything you need to get it set up and included a battery pack when in need of running it on six by AA batteries, a cigarette lighter adapter to use without battery operation of your car or truck. The CB is even compatible with the Midland headsets available to buy separately.

What makes the Midland 40 Channel CB Radio Special

When travelling long distances and live on the road, you require a CB radio that can offer you with a variety of communication and the Midland 40 Channel CB radio has provided me with just that as it comes with 40 communication channels that offer you with maximum range of four watts output power.

Another great feature that I like about the CB radio that my older one did not offer is the capability of automatically searching for channel activities and stopping on active channels for more than five seconds. It has the capability of storing up to five channels in the memory for when needed. Once you switch on the CB radio, it returns to the last channel selected before powering it off. With my older model, I always use to find that there are many disturbances while traveling, however, with the Midland, there is no static annoyance as it comes with an automatic noise limiter (ANL) that has improved reception while traveling providing me with clear contact.

Great to use in emergencies

As explained previously, I was stuck on the mountain roads and with the immediate access to the emergency nine channels could find someone to assist me in my predicament I found myself. It also offers you with NOAA weather radio 24/7 and a channel 19 that provides you with information when required. You can even monitor the emergency channel and other channels simultaneously. Another added feature is the high/low settings provided that helps with battery life when needed as it comes with a mobile adapter to provide power directly from the cigarette lighter port.

Ease of use

The Midland 75-822 comes with a large backlit multi-function LCD display that you can use easily during the day or night while driving. With the keypad, you can lock in your preferred settings and the flexible aerial comes with BNC connectors easily removed while in transport and the external headset jacks great for hands-free use and have used it a lot while on the road.

Customer Feedback

Before buying Midland 75-822 40 Channel CB-way radio, I read quite a lot of Amazon customer reviews in deciding if this radio was what I needed when traveling on the long road between here and nowhere and found that most customers rated it with 4 stars. More than 600 people have bought the product and used it mostly for their vehicles.

The majority are pleased with the CB radio when it comes to staying in contact with loved ones that are traveling by road long distance every day.  It works great when it comes to range as Midland offers you with an optional external antenna to use while traveling and very affordable to buy.

One customer had the following to say on the radio, “He informed that most of the criticism noted regarding to this handheld when traveling long distance is useless as most CB radios go out of range and the external aerial works great and offers you with clear contact while on the road. He loves the features offered as you do not find a CB radio that offers you with five memories, memory scan, and a mobile adaptor to use as a hands-free device. He also said that for the price it is an excellent buy.”

Pros

  • The Midland 40 Channel CB radio is versatile and compact
  • It comes with great features that most other CB radios do not offer
  • It works great even on motorcycles
  • The radio is easy to install and use

Cons

The only complaint that the most people had was that it does not provide you with great use when on the road and out of range, however, by adding an external antenna on the outside of the vehicle solves the problem.

How compatible is this CB Radio

Well to be honest, I have it rigged in my truck with an external antenna for out of range coverage, but have noted that many have used it on their motorcycles, RV’s, any type of vehicle for travelling, and even at home to keep in contact with loved ones.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a CB radio that offers you the best of both in being a handheld as well as a mobile device, then the Midland 75-822 40 Channel CB-way radio offers you with that and you can rig it anywhere you go. It comes with a full car kit and extra battery pack and makes a great option to use in multiple vehicles. With the added features, the emergency and weather channel has helped me when on the road.
