Cobra 29 LX Review

Hey, their today I would love to share with you my experience while using the Cobra 29 LX 40-Channel CB Radio with Instant Access 10 NOAA Weather Stations and Selectable 4 Color Display. I am an active member of a group that regularly goes on trips with a Jeep club I belong. This we do once a month when can and many of our trails require the use of a CB as it is critical to keep track of weather and friends while traveling. I use to have a Cobra 29 LTD Classic, but recently upgraded to the Cobra 29 LX 40 Channel.

My biggest concern was if this radio would have the same output and audio as the older one seeing that it is an upgrade to one of their previous radios.

Taking a closer look at the Cobra 29 LX

Well the first impression I got when opening the CB radio box for the Cobra 29 LX is that the box looks different than most of the CB boxes I investigated online and tells you that this radio is not just a typical radio, but something special. In the box, you find the radio, user manual, mounting bracket, the microphone, power cord, and all required mounting hardware well packed and wrapped for protection.

The CB radio itself has holes on either side for mounting with metal thumbscrews. Even the back of the radio looks traditional with an antenna input, standard three-pin power cord connection, and a public address plus external speaker jack.

The CB radio comes with six knobs that consists of two for dual control and is definitely not cluttered providing it with a clean look. Moreover, must say that Cobra has outdone them with the design as you control the knobs easily and has a great digital display.

Operating the Cobra 29 LX CB radio

After installing the Cobra 29 LX CB radio in my Jeep it was time to take it for a test run and learn all the features it had to offer and was surprised with some of the knobs and have to mention them here as they are some of the important knobs to be found on the radio.

The first one is the Talkback knob that allows you to hear your voice through the internal speaker while transmitting and found it very useful as I could hear how certain microphones sound and you can adjust the echo on the microphone.

Another great feature I like is the scan that automatically scans through frequencies and great to find my friends while out on a trail saving me lots of time in manually rotating until I find someone to talk. It comes with two types of modes and sequentially scans 40 channels and it allows you to store the channels in the memory.

And last but not least is an added new feature the digital SWR/RF/Signal meter that functions in three different modes of displaying the S/RF mode that is signal strength, CAL is for calibrating the radio for SWR and finally the SWR to test your standing wave ratio.

The radio also comes with 29 weather channels that for a Jeep trail enthusiast are very important while traveling.

Before deciding on buying the Cobra 29, I read some of the Cobra 29 LX CB radio review available on Amazon. With more than 200 customer feedback I made my decision on buying it for myself as most of them are pleased with the radio when it comes to transmitting and receiving, the scan feature works fast and provides you with ease of use, even the availability to change backlit colors is great.

Another customer advised that he had bought the CB radio for their cross-trip holiday for weather purposes and found it to work great as it would automatically turn on if there were any weather alerts in the area helping us to know that we had to look out for heavy rains or storms along the way. He recommends this to anyone living in remote areas or is in need of traveling along roads long distance.

Pros

• The Cobra 29 LX is much more modernized now than my older one with the great design and features offered
• Another great thing is that Cobra did not mess around with the CB making changes to the transmit or receiving parts of the radio as you find in many other makes
• You can easily see the display and adjust the color
• The scan and store functions are great

Cons

Would have preferred if the knobs were chrome as it makes it very difficult to find in the dark when traveling because they are black, however, could not find any other faults regarding the CB radio.

Conclusion

Overall, I am very pleased with the Cobra 29 LX 40-Channel CB Radio with Instant Access 10 NOAA Weather Stations and Selectable 4 Color Display and have many selling points, as with the modern style it is suited for new vehicles. The changing color of the LED is great and changeable with the press of one button. So if you are traveling soon and want to keep yourself updated with the weather and friends this CB radio is most definitely the one to buy.
